Doc Bar - The Horse Who Changed An Entire Breed

In the following text you`ll get a chance to read the story about Doc Bar, the well-known Quarter horse who have changed an entire breed. He was foaled in 1956. His sire was Lightning Bar, a son of Three Bars and his dam was Dandy Doll, a daughter of Texas Dandy. Tom Finley, his owner really had some high hopes for Doc Bar, but it didn`t turned out as he expected. Doc Bar didn`t earn a lot on the racetrack.

It has been obvious that Doc Bar was not designed to be a racer and he has transformed the entire breed, by not being a typical Quarter horse. Surprisingly he became an extraordinary sire, cutting and halter horse, and it has been his appearance that has influenced on his ability. He had a gorgeous head, a little fox ears, deep through the heart and clean in the throatlatch.

Doc Bar has won many competitions during his career- 12 first-place, including 10 grand and reserve championships. In 1963 he has been sold for $30,000 to Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Jensen from Paicines, California. Almost every breeding program wanted to incorporate Doc Bar. So, he sired amazingly number of 485 foals!

The horse world said goodbye to this amazing champion in 1992. Doc Bar was 36-years old when he died and in his sire career revolutionized the cutting horse industry. A year after his death, he has been inducted into the American Quarter Horse Association`s.
